Well written and thought provoking
When I read the back cover of Dying for Revenge, and it described the main characters as a medical investigator, I thought—“Oh no! Not another crime scene investigator story that will subject us to descriptions of mutilated bodies and depraved criminals.”
Because a friend recommended it, I bought the book (after a bit of hesitation). It only took a few chapters before I realized that my initial viewpoint was wrong. The book presented a well-written and thought provoking story. The author’s use of medical and pathology procedures and terms make it obvious that she understands what she is writing about, but she does it without the usual gory descriptions that many seem to crave.
The stories medical investigator, Dr. Jane Wallace, does her work efficiently and by the book. However, those who work with her see Dr. Wallace as cold and unapproachable. Her family and close friends know that she is battling a deep loss that shrouds her in bitterness.
As Jane uses her abilities and intellect to help the county sheriff find and stop the person who is murdering local citizens, she is also struggling with her own inner pains of the memories that destroyed her world. The story brings suspense and mystery. At the same time, it gives the reader a chance to know and possibly understand Jane’s struggle with her feeling of loss and injustice.
I hope there will be more “Lady Doc” mysteries by Barbara Golder in the near future. Next time I won’t hesitate to buy the book.

Dying For Revenge The Lady Doc Murders Book 1 edition by Barbara Golder Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

Lots of colorful characters made up this fast moving medical thriller that involves the M. E.s home life as well as social life. Suspenseful and interesting with a gorgeous portrayal of parts of Colorado, color and locale.
I really enjoyed the way the author developed her characters. Surprised me with the different possibilities of who the murderer was and the mystery behind why they were murdered. I would recommend this book highly!
I couldn't put it down. I appreciated the character development, plot, and intriguing addition of the moral and spiritual dilemmas. I wasn't completely convinced by the resolution of the murders. All in all a very good mystery andi look forward to reading more from this author. My only misgiving is that she occasionally took ill-disguised digs at leftists and environmentalists, which I felt was uncalled for and detracted from the Christian message that underscores this mystery.
I read this book over Memorial Day weekend and couldn't put it down! Great book! A crime story about an intelligent and educated woman who examines death and its meaning in her personal life and also in her professional life as a medical examiner. Her career in medicine, pathology, and the law, and her Catholic faith combines for an interesting character.
My sister recommended Dying For Revenge, which can get iffy. We usually don't enjoy the same reading style and have been hunting for years to find authors we both can enjoy and talk about. I'm happy to say that Barbara Golder has become one of those authors.

Dying for revenge was set in my home state of Colorado which caught my sister's interest and went on to become a good read filled with interesting characters. Thank you for hours of enjoyment. My sister and I will be waiting for the next book in the series.
I thought this book was well-written, with an interesting main character, both a forensic doctor and a lawyer. The como made her headstrong and almost unapproachable as she was steeped in the bitterness of the loss of her husband. Craving justice, and not receiving it for her loss, in spite of a heafty financial compensation only served to make her more prickly. Yet when a headstrong Irishman enters her life, along with a compassionate priest and a handful of immigrant women she reluctantly shelters, she slowly begins to return to the land of the living. She softens, and learns that forgiveness trumps vengeance, and that the giving of herself is the true cure for forsaking revenge, to embrace a future leading her from darkness into light. On the journey, she solves a spate of murders. But for me the retooling of her heart, mind and soul was more interesting. LNM
Enjoyable, believable story-line, murder mystery without the graphic seedy side over played. I'm happy to find a new author to read. This is her first book so some of the editing was a tad off (grammar in places and a few awkward sentences requiring re-reading to get the meaning), but it was a good summer read. Most of the books I read are either for a deeper understanding of Spiritual/Catholic teaching, academic reading (a home schooling mom), 12-step/Self-awareness/Growth material, and at least once per year an autobiographical conversion story. I do love to reread good classics so either a JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, Dickens, etc., author gets read in between the above. THIS kind of book is a good break and doesn't require heavy thinking on my part. It is my substitute for TV. I will be ordering her next in this series.
