I am so proud of Christine McDonald for telling her story about her plight of being human trafficked & abused by people in authority over her. The mental, physical & sexual abuse that led her into a life of prostitution & drugs is eye opening! This book allows a person to perceive with different "lens" just how a person can get to the point of having to live on the streets. It teaches us not to judge those we see when we don't know their story. This books help any person who has ever said, "They chose that life & I chose my life," to look with introspection about the reality of themselves being one step away from homelessness. Anyone at any point could be fired from their job, develop a costly illness they can't afford, become addicted to pain meds, lose their family through their addiction to narcotics then lose their job, end up living in their car till they abandon it because they can't afford it without a job and end up on the streets. We are all one step away from being homeless, we just don't know it. Cry Purple teaches us not to judge others plight but to be compassionate. Christine tells raw facts about what things led her to run away from home when she was young & fall into the hands of abusing predators who used mind manipulation to gain favors, then enticed her giving her drugs. Then she speaks about how getting hooked on drugs offered as payment began to numb her from her own feelings of shame & guilt. Through God's help and many prayers, Christine has been able to rise above her trials and even her blindness because God prevailed in His plan for her purpose! As if being an ex-felon and drug addict wasn't hard enough for anyone, Christine then shares her telling story of losing her eyesight and how that affected her life and relationships. Do you wonder why people commit suicide? Cry Purple gives you a glimpse. She now attempts to help others from falling into the same plight she fell into, through her candid testimony. How does one help homeless people? What do we say to them? Christine's loving heart shines as we see her help other addicts and homeless people as she tells her story of giving out basic needs such as food without any strings attached to homeless addicts along Independence Ave as she began her reform. She allows us an inside look to her motherhood trials without any money to pay for necessities. She reveals how respected authority figures took advantage of her when she was young and how she then fell into a life of prostitution and drugs not by choice but as a means of "coping" with the shame and guilt. I never comprehended how a homeless person...especially a woman might do drugs to prevent herself from being hungry for fear she might then fall asleep! I sleep every night in a warm safe bed but Christine speaks about the horror of eating if she was able to obtain food because then sleep was immediately induced, & sleeping put any homeless person at risk. Thus, if she did drugs, she avoided eating and sleeping up to a week or more until she could go no longer. The thought of falling asleep is the scariest thing for a homeless person because they are totally vulnerable to rape & other tortures by sick individuals, & this is something I learned to see as a reality that I had not thought about before. This reality opened my eyes to why people choose drugs and why it's hard for them to stop doing them. Christine tells of friends who did not make it through as she did, but also she speaks about her despair & then how she found love and was able to pick herself back up. Cry Purple is a must read for everyone!! It enables us to have more compassion and understanding for those who have been kicked to the wayside, abandoned & forgotten. I am putting Cry Purple and her other book, "One Kind of Human" on my Facebook & telling everyone they need to read both of them!!!! Some day I would love to meet Christine if I am blessed enough! Thank you Christine for your brave raw testimony!!!

Cry Purple edition by Christine McDonald Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews

I can see what she went through. I cry a lot reading this book. Me a drug addict. Still I said to say. What she did to survive I wouldn't make it. I give you all my respect as a woman a mom a recovery drug addict and a very strong woman being able to be strong. I can say I hope one day I can be strong like you. I have be there and up and down. But not a strong as you. I can say your kids have a great wonderful strong mom. That they can be so blessed. I love your book and hope you get all your wishes come true. Be happy smile laugh and cry. I say write the other part 2 book. I would love to know what's happening now today 2017. Well I will never loose this book. You a wonderful lady. Best wishes to you and your kids.
There are geniuses at survival. I know of two books by people who intuitively, just from their nature, survived serial hell and came out unscathed at the other end. These are Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning, and Najaf Mazari's The Rugmaker of Mazar-e-Sharif.
In a way, Christine McDonald has done even better. She started being vulnerable, and hurting, and needing to run away from that pain using self-destructive behaviors, particularly drug addiction. All the same, she managed to end up in the same place as Viktor and Najaf. Her circumstances are still highly challenging today, and yet she is far more high functioning than most people with objectively easy lives.
This is post-traumatic growth at its best. Using an analogy I often offer to my clients, she truly has been turned into a diamond by the terrible pressures of her past. Not only is she coping, also she is actively advocating for others, doing her considerable best to make this planet a better place for the disadvantaged.
One of my cliches is "Only two things matter in this life what you take with you when you die, and what you leave behind in the hearts of others. Everything else is Monopoly money." Christine is on the right path, not despite her many mistakes and sufferings, but because of them; because eventually she made Choices that advanced her in spiritual development.
Here are three quotes from the book that are worth printing, and sticking onto your mirror "You can't go back to fix the past. However, you can let go of the guilt and shame and move on from this day forward." "Somewhere along the path of struggling to live blind, I found that my blindness had become my blessing." "I grow through my challenges."
Whatever your circumstances, if you feel sorry for yourself, feel resentment and are tortured by the monster "Not Fair Why Me?" then read this book, and use this lady as your shining example.
I am glad i ran across a link to Christine McDonald's website. Reading her testimony was eye opening and encouraging and i knew i had to read the book to hear more of the story.
We have no clue what the life of an abused and trafficed homeless woman is like, and look down on them and their condition thinking they got what they deserve, not realizing we are treating them inhumanely and allowing their plight to continue. Thankfully, God saw fit keep alive and rescue Christine, so she could tell her story and open our eyes to more of "mans' inhumanity to man".
I can never ignore and look at people the same now and wonder where this will take me, and see what God will do in my life and others' lives.
I am thankful Christine had the courage to share a life we couldnt imagine, and she has a heart to help those still out there. If you have any desire to help people i highly recommend this book to help you see what you've never seen before and hopefully inspire compassion and a desire to help others.
